How to Get to Naples

Naples, Italy is one of Italy’s largest port cities and is located on the southwestern coast of Italy. It is easily accessible via airplane, train, or cruise ship.

Naples International Airport is the main airport in Naples, and is about 14 minutes by car from downtown.

Napoli Centrale Train Station is the main train station and takes you right into downtown.

The Naples Cruise Terminal also lets you off right in the city center area. You can walk from there around town without the need for a transfer.

What to Do in Naples

Naples is a busy port town and seaside city with a long history dating back to Roman times.

The number one thing to do in Naples is to take a walk by the seaside along Lungomare.

Stop by Castel dell’Ovo – an imposing castle that rises out of the sea and is connected to the mainland by a footbridge. It is the perfect place to enjoy views of the sea or have dinner at one of the several seafood restaurants nearby.

If you want to go shopping, visit Via Toledo, the main shopping street of Naples!

Via San Gregorio Armeno is the city’s most famous alleyway dedicated to the selling of kitsch nativity souvenirs.

Spend the afternoon at Naples National Archaeological Museum! The Archaeological Museum houses Naples’s most significant collection of Roman remains and displays much of the loot uncovered during the Pompeii and Herculaneum digs.  You can get tickets here.

Visit the Royal Palace of Naples! Designed in the sixteenth century as a monument to celebrate Spanish glory, these lavishly decorated royal apartments are now home to an eclectic collection of tapestries, sculptures and paintings. You can get tickets here.

Stop by and take in the San Carlo Theatre – a majestic and grand opera theatre that is the oldest in Europe! Take a seat for world-class operas, ballets and concerts, or check out the state-of-the-art museum featuring contemporary exhibitions and a virtual 3D gallery. Visit the Castel Sant’Elmo – a stunning medieval fortress on a hill overlooking the city. The funicular journey up is amazing and from the top you can see the best views of Naples. You can get further info here.

The hot season lasts from June to September, with an average daily temperature above 80°F. The hottest month of the year in Naples is August, with an average high of 85°F and low of 69°F.

The cool season lasts from November to March, with an average daily temperature below 61°F. The coldest month of the year in Naples is January, with an average low of 43°F and high of 55°F.
